Home ground
Insurance broker in Jounieh and Keserwan
We are based in Zouk Mikael, a few minutes down the coast, which is the shortest distance between a client and a broker we are able to offer anyone.
HNB Insurance is based in Zouk Mikael. Jounieh is the next town along the coast, which makes Keserwan the one place we serve where being close is a practical advantage rather than a line in an advertisement. A document can be signed the same day it is drawn up. Damage can be looked at while it is still fresh. A conversation about what a policy actually excludes can happen sitting down, instead of over three phone calls and a forwarded PDF.
Close enough to turn up
Distance matters at two moments: when a policy is being placed, and when a claim is being filed. At the first, being nearby means the awkward parts get done properly, the vehicle inspection, the signatures, the photographs of a property before anything is insured, rather than being pushed back until they are inconvenient enough to skip.
At the second it matters more. A claim usually turns on documents produced in the first few days, and an insurer that receives a complete file argues less than one that receives it in pieces. Being fifteen minutes away is not a slogan on those days, it is the difference between a settlement and a follow-up.
The coastal road, and the roads above it
Motor claims in Keserwan do not look like motor claims in the capital. The coastal road and the highway through Jounieh carry real speed, with merges, service road entries and drivers crossing lanes late to reach an exit, so damage tends to be heavier and less frequent than the constant small contact of city traffic. Above the shore, the climbs towards Harissa, Ghazir, Adonis and Ballouneh add narrow bends, uneven lighting and a long wet season.
Two things follow from that. First, winter is a real underwriting question here: standing water on the coastal stretch, hail, and material coming loose onto a parked car during a storm are all ordinary causes of claims, and natural perils are not automatically part of a motor policy. Second, if the likelier scenario is a collision at speed rather than a bumper in a queue, the case for full all-risk cover rather than third-party and material damage is stronger, and the deductible is the number worth arguing over.
Residents, returning families and houses that stand empty
Keserwan has an unusual mix of households. People who are here all year, families who left Lebanon and come back for a few weeks in summer, and apartments or village houses kept for weekends and for a generation that now lives abroad.
That mix changes what a property policy has to do. Most fire and theft covers carry conditions about unoccupancy, and a flat closed for nine months of the year can quietly fall outside them without anyone noticing until a claim is refused. A leak in an empty apartment is found when the damage is finished rather than when it starts. Building and contents are underwritten separately, and a house furnished over thirty years is very often insured for a fraction of what replacing the contents would actually cost.
The same households need travel cover more often than most. For a family abroad an annual multi-trip policy is normally cheaper than buying single trips one at a time, a Schengen application is checked for both the medical limit and the dates, and anyone insured through an employer in another country should not assume that plan follows them here for the summer.
NSSF, hospitals and why it is worth checking here
Hospital access in this district is not settled. NSSF contracts with hospitals in Keserwan have been contested, and Kesrouan Medical Center lost its NSSF contract in January 2025. That is a plain reason not to assume the nearest hospital will accept your card on the day you need it.
If the NSSF is the whole of your cover, that is worth understanding properly before something happens rather than at an admissions desk. If it is not, then the private plan sitting over it should be judged on which hospitals in Keserwan and Beirut its network really includes, and in which class, since that is what decides admission and the room you are given. We wrote a guide on exactly this question.
Businesses along the bay
The strip from Zouk through Jounieh is dense with small and medium businesses: restaurants and seasonal venues, retail, clinics, workshops and offices. Seasonality is the detail insurers care about, because stock, staff numbers and the number of people through the door in August are not what they are in February.
The covers involved are the ordinary ones, public liability, property and stock, workmen compensation and a group medical plan, but the sums insured and the wording should describe the business in its busy months rather than its quiet ones. A policy written off a February inventory is underinsured for most of the season that matters.
What being local is actually worth
Not much, if it only means a pin on a map. It is worth something when a claim needs a person: someone to photograph damage the way an assessor wants to see it, to know which documents an insurer will send back, and to keep asking after the file goes quiet. Our brokers bring over ten years in the Lebanese market, and the part of that clients notice is at claim time rather than at the quotation.
So the offer for Jounieh and Keserwan is a plain one. We compare licensed insurers, we say where a cheaper policy is simply narrower, and we are close enough to be present when it counts. Life cover, which almost nobody asks about until a bank requires it, is arranged the same way as everything else.
